Car buyers can get Maruti Suzuki’s Swift or D’zire models at a 2-3% discount now. Dealers of Maruti vehicles reported that the company has started offering the discount for the first time for the fast selling model. The discount holds good for both the petrol and diesel variants. Both these models contribute to 35% of Maruti’s total volumes per month.
The move has, however, had the stockbrokers on the BSE and NSE worried and traders are worried that the discounts will decrease Maruti’s margins.
Former Managing Director of Maruti Jagdish Khattar said that the move in unlikely to increase sales. ‘The overall sentiment is not so good. Rate of interest remains high and fuel prices have been going up’, he said.
