One of the important points in south Chennai is the junction of Greenways Road and Durgabai Deshmukh Road and it is always packed with traffic. It should be taken into account that bumper to bumper traffic is witnessed in the peak hours of time in Greenways Road.
The sensational piece of information is the state government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 22.84 crores to create 3 lane unidirectional link road connecting Greenways Road and Durgabhai Deshmukh Road. It is now revealed that the traffic congestion would not be there hereafter in this junction.
Point to be noted is the highways department has finalized the alignment of the road, which would run adjacent to the government Music College through the land belonging to the Animal Husbandry Department and exit via the land along the periphery of Dr.MGR Janaki Arts and Science College. It was later brought out by a source that the Music College would not be disturbed and it would be in the form of ‘L’ and would run through open lands for 600 m and join just before the popular Thiru VI Ka Bridge.
A frequent commuter to Parrys from Indira Nagar spoke about how after the opening of Marina Loop Road the travel time has reduced. She was happy about the new 3 lane unidirectional link road and said the motorists would be benefited. It is well known that Greenways Road is an important stretch in south Chennai and is the home for many ministers and judges etc.
An official pointed out that the sharp left turn to Durgabai Deshmukh Road slows down the traffic. He added that the link road would help the residents in places like Adyar, Tiruvanmiyur and Guindy etc. To initiate land transfer proceedings, the department is presently waiting for the Chennai district collectorate. A maximum of one year would be taken to complete the work once land is transferred.
