For the next 2 days, Chennai to have thunderstorms

Over the last few days, there were some late evening rains in the Chennai city and the rains have brought delight on the faces of many residents. Information that has emerged out is Chennai city would be having thunderstorms atleast in the next 2 days when the intensity of the monsoon rain in the western region is expected to reduce gradually. This was as per the weathermen. Some of the weather bloggers are of the view that rains in the city of Chennai is likely to intensify enough to recharge the groundwater table.

The condition of the sky is likely to be generally cloudy and light rains or thunder showers is likely to occur in some parts. This was according to Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, 48 hour forecast. The reducing intensity of monsoon rains in the neighboring states of Kerala and Karnataka combined with weakening westerly winds have been responsible for the sharp late evening spells of rains in Chennai city. This was as per some weather experts.

Chennai based weather blogger Mr. Pradeep John mentioned that in the next 4 to 5 days Chennai and the neighboring districts would get good rains. Information is weakening monsoon winds would bring convective rains in Chennai. He added that special spells would be present in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet. It must be noted apart from monsoon winds weakening and convergence taking place there is also upper air circulation at mid level. In the coming days, the clouds formed due to heat would sustain a lot for one or two days to even look like monsoon days in the mornings. This was also according to Mr. Pradeep John’s post.

It is known that the forenoons have been hot in the last few days with cloudy skies taking over in the afternoons followed by isolated short spells. The temperatures have been around a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius. It is said that the temperature might touch 37 degree Celsius in the next 48 hours. The high day time temperatures triggers convective clouds and bring the rain. This was according to some officials of meteorological department.
