Heavy security in T Nagar during the Deepavali season - 1300 CCTV cameras!

In order to strengthen - beef up - the security measures during the Deepavali festive shopping, 100 CCTV have been installed.

As it is observed huge crowds are visiting this shopping center to buy clothes and other items, the Chennai Metro city T Nagar area is brought under the special surveillance of the police department.

Following this, the Chennai Police Commissioner, visited this area to supervise/inspect the security measures taken, inaugurated the launch of the 100 CCTV cameras installed.

The Chennai Metro Police Commissioner shared with the press reporters that 1200 CCTV cameras are already installed in T Nagar and functioning. Now, an additional 100 CCTV cameras have been installed making the total 1300. He informed that there had been no criminal incidents in the last 2 years’ Deepavali festive season. So, in order to maintain this record, the security in the area has been beefed up.

Further, the "FACE TAGR" camera, Body One Camera, and drone cameras are installed and available which help to identify the faces of the criminals by comparing them with the give data. A software, ‘TANGO EYE’ has been installed in the set-up. The data of all criminals are registered and stored here. In the case known faces of criminals are identified by these cameras, immediate information will be alerted to the police.

Besides the above security measures, 3 monitoring towers have been set up and around 500 police staff have been deployed on rotation duty.
