As there are 2 options available online provided by the state government department of food, the ration card holders are confused as to which one they should use!

Among the 2 Crores family ration cardholders in the state of Tamil Nadu, 1.20 Lakhs cardholders have the sugar family ration cards (items excluding rice can be bought). Now, the state government has announced that these sugar cardholders can change their cards into rice family ration card.

The government had announced that the public can carry out this change either by directly visiting the offices local distribution circles or the offices of the Assistant Commissioner in Chennai or online on the official website of the State Government Department of Food. Deadline has been given up to 26th November to do this change.

Subsequently, a very large number of the sugar family cardholders have been changing their cards into rice family ration cards. However, they have reported that there are confusions.

In this regard, a large number of family ration card holders in Tamil Nadu including the Chennai Metro City shared:

‘The facility has been introduced in the web site of the Food Department to make this change. To put it in a different way, the facility has been made for the cardholder to make the change of the family ration card type with white colours in a green background.

However, with the subsequent announcement by the Tamil Nadu State Government, another option is available to change the type of family ration card. This facility has been given in the Food Department official website. A special link appears on the screen with the text ‘to change the sugar ration card to rice ration card’ in white letters in red background.

Now, confusion has arisen as to which option to adopt.  After doing the change in the green option, when trying to change again with the red option, it indicates that the change has already been done.

So, the public has raised the question of which option is to be used.

In this regard, the internal circle of the Food Department explains that the change can be carried out only once. Any of the options, green or red, can be used.
