There would not be Teachers Eligibility Test or TET conducted in this year as per the schedule in Tamil Nadu. This news would surely bring disappointment on the faces of many aspiring teachers.
It is well known that TET is compulsory for the appointment of teachers in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board or TNTRB conducted TET in 2019 in TN. This TNTRB is the nodal agency for appointing the teachers. More than 6 lakh aspiring candidates appeared for the paper 1 and 2 that was conducted in the month of June 2019.
In this 2020, the threat due to Corona virus and the extended lock down has made TNTRB unable to issue notification about TET.
Conducting TET is a tedious process and it would take 7 months from announcing the notification to the declaration if the results. This was as per a senior officer belonging to TNTRB.
He then explained that recruitment processes like appointing lecturers in government polytechnic colleges, block educational officers in the elementary education department, professors in government arts and science colleges.PG assistants and computer instructors in schools, has been pending. At this time, it won’t be possible for the TNTRB to conduct TET.
The completion of all the pending recruitment works would take another 5 to 6 months of time and then only TET could be conducted. It is important to note that at this current situation new TET schedule cannot be released. Clashing of TET with the exams conducted by TNPSC or Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission was also mentioned by the official.
