The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has planned to conduct the trial-rums on the Chennai Metro Phase-1 Extension.

CMRL plans to start the 25 kV power Supply in the Phase-1 Extension Project in North Chennai between Washermanpet and Wimco Nagar during this week.

As per the plan, one track would be energized on Monday (today, 30th November), the other will be scheduled to be done on Saturday. They have also planned to conduct the trial run in 2 weeks.

CMRL officials shared:
”They plan to monitor and check the line for any issues that emerge during this trial and resolve them in the next 2 months. They plan to complete the 9 km stretch before end January 2021. As such, CMRL has to install and check the functioning of all important systems in the next month.

CMRL wants to carry out the trial run first by operating a locomotive engine by mid-December. Within the next few weeks, they plan to operate the trains on trial.

Presently, the trackwork has been completed and is ready for trial.

The construction of the stations and installation of the telecom and signalling system has been progressing and will be finished by mid-January. Installation of platform screen doors in the underground stations has already commenced and is to be completed by the next month.

Meanwhile, the construction of stations has to be expedited. This is essential to carry out the final inspection!”
