Who would have thought that the active Covid-19 cases in Chennai would triple in just 12 days of time?
Now, this has happened in Chennai city. From 6255 active cases on 31st March 2021 the active cases have now tripled to 17098 active cases on 12th of April 2021. Unbelievable isnt it!!
A month back, Chennai recorded less than 1000 Covid-19 positive cases per day and now the daily cases are hovering near 2000 mark. The control measures have been ramped up and fever surveillance has begun now in Chennai to control the spread of the Coronavirus infection.
It must be noted in Chennai that the number of streets with active cases have increased from 500 in March to 1106 in April. The highest number of streets (226) with Covid-19 positive cases is in Kodambakkam zone and next comes Teynampet zone with 145 streets having cases and more than 1000 streets have Covid-19 cases now
Fever surveillance has been strengthened in these streets of these 2 above said zones and the residents who meet the vaccination criteria must get vaccinated.
According to an officer belonging to GCC, the surveillance staff of the Chennai Corporation have been instructed to bring people who meet the age bracket for vaccination. By this, deaths due this deadly infection could be prevented. Now, nearly 250 fever camps are being conducted in Chennai and almost 10,000 people are being covered every day.
Truth is that as many as 30000 people were attending the fever camps in June and July in 2020 but now it is just less than 10000.The main objective behind the fever camps was to prevent death due to Covid-19 infection and ensuring quick hospitalisation of those with co-morbid conditions. After more than 6 months on 11th April 2021, the number of Covid tests went above 15000 in Chennai.
