Garbage filled corridor in the slum tenements board belonging to Lock Nagar has been cleared by GCC along with the staff belonging to Urbaser Sumeet. The space has been changed into a play area now. This is making news now.
It is known that Urbaser Sumeet is a private firm that carries out conservancy works in half of the zones belonging to GCC. The garbage and muck from the unused corridor in the tenement near Chepauk was removed by GCC along with Urbaser Sumeet. The sources have mentioned that the residents of the slum board tenements were involved in clearing the space. The new cleaned area has got swings installed now and the kids would be able to use it as their play area from now on.
It must not be forgotten that GCC and the private firm cleaned 2 corridors belonging to the slum board tenements at Pallakkumaniam a few months back and this grabbed many eyeballs at that time.
Now, GCC has plans to upgrade this space with more facilities so that the residents here could use the corridors as meeting places and for organising functions etc. It is important to mention that the GCC has planned to do similar work at the Suthanthira Nagar near Chepauk.
It was pointed out by an official belonging to GCC before starting the works meetings were held with the residents belonging to the slum board tenements to apprise them about the work and request them to maintain the corridors after the work was finished. Superb work by GCC!!
