Integral Coach Factory or ICF in Chennai has built as many as 3101 coaches between April 2021 and March 2022 and by that ICF had met the target of 3100 coaches set by railway board or RB. This has caught the attention of many. Despite the disruptions caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, ICF has achieved the target of more than 3100 coaches. This was as per some ICF officials.
Of the total of 1954 coaches built by ICF for the year 2021-2022, as many as 1391 are air-conditioned coaches. Production targets of AC coaches have been increased. The superb piece of information is that this is the first time a large number of air-conditioned coaches have been produced.
Fifteen LHB Vistadome coaches have been built by ICF and these coaches would be added to the trains that would be operated to tourist spots. It must be taken into note that the vistadome coach has got a glass ceiling and it would offer a 180 degrees panoramic view for the passengers.
It is learnt that ICF had exported 109 coaches (83 mainline coaches and 26 for air-conditioned DEMU coaches produced by ICF during 2021-2022. Between Jayanagar in Bihar and Kurta in Nepal via Janakpur, a pilgrimage site, 10 DEMU coaches made by ICF were launched. On 2nd April, the train was flagged by the PM of India. For Kolkata Metro, ICF had built 18 rakes or 144 coaches of new air-conditioned coaches. In 2018-19, ICF made many heads turn when it crossed 3000 mark in the coach production and as many as 3262 coaches were produced by ICF. In 2019-20 ICF produced 4166 coaches and surprised many. It is known that the lockdown due to Coronavirus pandemic and subsequent closure of ICF plant has led to a dip in the production of coaches by ICF in 2020-2021.
