During the peak hours In the evening, the commuters now want more limited stops fast trains from Chennai Beach to Chengalpet. Truth is that despite the third line being open from Tambaram to Chengalpet, the SR hasn`t yet introduced fast trains.
Many regular users of the suburban trains face lots of issues due to slow trains that stop at all the stations and they reach their homes late after leaving their offices in Chennai. The movement of express trains has been causing huge issues in between for these regular users of the suburban trains as the train services get delayed at Tambaram. In the evening, there is only one limited stop train but in the morning there are more services to Chennai. This was as per a regular commuter. Though crowding is not an issue, the real issue for many commuters is reaching their homes very late.
The journey from Mambalam to Vandalur on a regular suburban train is tedious as it would take one hour whereas in the fast trains it would take just 20 minutes for the same distance. It must not be forgotten that before the Coronavirus pandemic struck, the railways department used to run 3 fast trains in the evenings of limited stops. It must be noted that the railways dept has restored the morning time fast trains. This has been a huge advantage for the regular commuters as they are able to avoid crowds and are able to reach Chennai on time.
It was later mentioned by Mr. R. Pandia Raja, member of ZRUCC that it would be superb if the railways department introduced 3 fast trains in the evenings from 5:30pm to 7:30 pm. He hinted that these fast trains could stop in places like Guduvanchery and Singapermunal Koil between Tambaram and Chengalpet. The commuters would be able to save atleast 15 minutes with the limited stop trains.
