The Minister of the State Government of Tamil Nadu for Hindu Endowment and Chennai Metro City Development Department, P. K. Sekar Babu visited the Kilambakkam New Bus Terminus construction for a survey and inspection!
To reduce the huge crowd of bus passengers at the Koyambedu Bus Terminal, especially during the festive seasons, a new bus Terminus is being constructed at Kilambakkam near Vandalur for the express buses operating to the southern districts for Rs. 400 Crores.
This new bus terminal at Kilambakkam covers an area of 85 acres and will have all the latest facilities adopting the latest technology! The construction project commenced in 2019 and is nearing completion quite soon!
In this scenario, Minister P. K. Sekar Babu having recently been entrusted with a change in portfolio of the Chennai Metro City Development Department, visited the construction site at Kilambakkam this morning (Thursday, 15th December) to monitor the construction progress.
Subsequently, he had a session with the press reporters and shared:
"After the opening of the Kilambakkam Bus terminal, a detailed review meeting was conducted regarding the necessities such as drinking water, toilet facilities, and congestion of traffic.
This new bus terminal covers 88 acres and is set to accommodate more than 2500 buses including the State Government Express buses, buses from other places and Omni-buses!
It is not possible at present to fix the date of the inauguration of this new bus terminal. Construction work was delayed due to the cyclone and the heavy downpour. The Contractor Company has been advised to expedite the balance of construction work.
In today`s survey, as officers and ministers have emphasized the need to take up various new tasks, these tasks have also been taken up for execution!
With the ever-increasing population, it would be convenient indeed if 2 or 3 more Bus Terminals apart from Koyambedu and Kilambakkam are set up in Chennai Metro City!"
