Robots would be used by CMWSSB or Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage board to identify blocks and leaks in the water pipelines in Chennai. This would be mainly to curtail transmission and distribution loss in the waterlines. The condition of the infrastructure would be studied by the robots that would be employed by the CMWSSB. This would help in fast tracking the issues.

Working process:

The cameras that are present in the robots would detect the exact location of leaks and blocks and reports would be sent. Action would be taken based on the reports. It is now said that 4 more robots would be purchased.

Tie up with Solinas Integrity Pvt Ltd:

It must be noted that the water agency has linked with Solinas Integrity Pvt Ltd, which is a IIT Madras incubated startup company. An electronically powerful robot named Endobot would be used. This Endobot resembles a small tank with wheels and is being used in zones 11 and 14 in Chennai to inspect the pipelines for damages.

As many as 15 kinds of issues like leaks, dent, corrosion, water contamination etc would be identified by Endobot when it inspects pipelihe sof 90 to 900mm diameter. This was brought to light by Mr. Vasanth Senthamizh, senior business development manager of Solinas.
