Chennais Koyambedu Vegetable Market: Further Drop in Tomato Prices!

Posted on: 08/Aug/2023 11:55:03 AM
The cost of tomatoes has recently declined by Rs. 10 per kilogram at the Koyambedu vegetable market in Chennai.

The ongoing intensification of the Southwest Monsoon across the nation has significantly impacted the tomato harvest. Consequently, the influx of tomatoes from neighboring states has notably diminished.

This situation has led to an escalation in tomato prices, reaching as high as Rs. 200 per kilogram in several regions of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai. Given the indispensability of tomatoes in cooking, the surge in their price has been a concern.

However, there is a positive shift underway. Since August 2nd, the arrival of tomatoes at the Koyambedu market has begun to rise, resulting in a gradual reduction in tomato prices.

In accordance with this trend, the price of tomatoes has now been lowered by Rs. 10 per kilogram, bringing it to Rs. 90 at the Koyambedu vegetable market in Chennai.

Moreover, the Otanchatram vegetable market in Dindigul contributed to public satisfaction as tomatoes were available at a rate of Rs. 40 per kilogram on Monday.
