Commuters from Avadi and beyond are finding it tough now to reach their offices on time. The reason for this is due to the delay in operating the suburban trains.
It must be recalled that the Southern railway or SR have truncated MRTS or Mass Rapid Transit System from Velachery to Chintadripet for the purpose of executing a fourth line between Egmore and Beach. Commuters from Avadi and beyond have been affected as stoppages of all cross sector direct services to places like Avadi, Tiruvallur and Arakkonam were brought about.
It must be noted that the passengers who use Moore Market Complex or MMC suburban complex (Tiruvallur and Arakkonam) have been facing issues regarding reaching their office on time.
Point is that suburban trains operated from Tiruvallur, Arakkonam and Pattabiram etc. get held up at the Basin bridge railway station or at the signal junction before MMC. The reason for this was due to poor operational management.
It was revealed by a regular commuter that the main reason for the delay was due to the caution order of 5km speed against normal slow operation of 20 kmph. He added that EMUs get held up at Perumbur or Basin Bridge station to give way for mail and express trains etc.
It is shocking to note that the huge amount of Rs 40 crores plus that was spent for the construction of 5th and 6th track lines to improve speeds of operation of suburban trains between Basin Bridge and MMC have been wasted. This was brought out by many regular passengers now. There are few passengers who mentioned better management that would decongest the platforms by citing the example of suburban trains that are operated from platforms 12 and 16 usually attract heavy crowds. Fact is that these platforms 12 and 16 have just a single discharge platform.
