Comprehensive Cancer Care - By May month, the centre for excellence for cancer diseases in Kancheepuram district will be ready!!
In the future, the people belonging to the district of Kancheepuram plus in the nearby places etc could get comprehensive cancer care at the Government Arignar Anna Memorial Cancer hospital.
It is now said that the ambitious project of constructing a centre for excellence for cancer diseases in the premises of this hospital would get completed by the month of May. Information is that the hospital at Karapettai is being upgraded as one of the premier institutions for comprehensive cancer care plus for providing training and for pursuing research in cancer. This hospital is located on a vast land of 10 acre and is 1000 bedded. It would cater to the patents from TN as well as from neighbouring states etc.
About 95% of the works have been completed now by the PWD to construct a hospital at a cost of Rs 218.46 cr. In the total area of 6.35lakh sqft, the 5 storey hospital is being constructed. According to an officer from PWD, the hospital has been designed as a pentagon shaped building with 10 blocks.
It must be remembered that in 2020 the TN govt gave sanction to construct just 2 storeyed structure and three more floors were added later on in the hospital.
It is noteworthy that several blocks would incorporate facilities and departments including the palliative care, radiation oncology ward, medical oncology ward, patient resource centre, genetics dept, modular operation theatres, blood bank and occupational therapy and interventional pain management clinic etc.
According to an official, the buildings have been designed to be well ventilated with atriums and the central courtyard would have a tensile roof and it would be aesthetically pleasing. He spoke about how it was difficult to execute the work as per the design.
The new structure would also have a yoga hall, multi-purpose hall, library, cafeteria and parking facility apart from the molecular research lab and bone marrow transplant unit etc.
