Chennai: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) recorded a total passenger ridership of 86.65 lakh in February, slightly lower than January’s 86.99 lakh. According to a CMRL press note, the highest single-day ridership was observed on February 7, with 3.56 lakh commuters.

With the withdrawal of Metro travel cards from April, 14.80 lakh passengers utilized them in February to exhaust their balances. Meanwhile, the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) saw a record usage of 34.22 lakh passengers, while 18.34 lakh commuters opted for the QR ticketing system.

To encourage digital transactions, CMRL has discontinued paper tickets for group travel from March 1, offering a 20% discount on QR-group tickets through its mobile app. Passengers can also avail of the discount across various ticketing options, including Metro travel cards, QR codes, WhatsApp, Paytm, PhonePe, and NCMC cards. Tickets can now be booked via CMRL’s WhatsApp Ticketing System at **+91 83000 86000**.
