Health Minister
M R K Paneerselvam announced that the Chief Minister would lay foundation for Madras Medical College new building as a part of 175 years
celebration of the college, in the place where central prison was situated. The
cost of the building estimated to be Rs 70 crores.
The minister
was talking while inaugurating the third International Congress of the Indian
section of International Society for Diseases of Esophagus [ESD] at theMadras Medical College Hospital.
V K Suburban, The Health secretary was appreciative of the initiatives such as
this forum. He said that it was time awareness about the lifestyles and food
habits of people that affect their health apart from hazards of getting over
weight. He also talked about the importance of creating strong awareness among
about various contagious diseases through schools. The workshop included
teleconferencing experts from all over the world besides 300 young surgeons
from India.
In the workshop doctors performed 15 surgeries to rectify Esophagus which is
caused by acid consumption. With technology improvement, Dr R Surendran, the
organizing President of the conference said, the surgery is now at the reach of
the poor
