Veeranam lake, which is one of the 3 major reservoirs supplying drinking water for Chennai Metro, is likely to fill to full capacity in the next 3 days!

Hence, MWSSB has indicated there is no likelihood for shortage of drinking water during this summer.

Details of news report released by MWSSB:

On 24th April, Veeranam Lake had 556 mcft (Million Cubic Feet). Giving due consideration to the requirement of drinking water required by Chennai Metro, water from Mettur Dam was released to Veeranam lake at the rate of 6000 cfrt per minute on 25th April.

This water from Mettur was brought via Kaveri River and reached Kallanai Dam on 27th April.

From Kallanai Dam, water was opened to Vadavaru to reach Veeranam Lake.

The full capacity of Veeranam Lake is 1466 mcft.

As per records on 6th May, the lake has filled up to 1379.95 mcft.

It is expected to reach full capacity in the next 3 days.

With this turn of events, it is possible to keep supplying drinking water to Chennai Metro at 180 million litres per day.

Hence, there might be no shortage of water to be experienced in Chennai Metro!
