The construction of the Porur flyover will resume and is set to be finished within 2 years. The news comes as a big relief to residents who face traffic hurdles due to the abandoned construction. According to a resident of Virugambakkam, traffic snarls at the junction and it takes over an hour to cross it on the weekends.
The construction for the flyover started in March of 2010. It is believed that work was put on hold as the workers disputed the shifting of the underground water lines along the planned area.
"In a year-and-half motorists using Mount Poonamallee Road will have a smoother drive... The four-lane, 475-metre long, 17.2-metres wide flyover which will come up at the Mount Poonamallee Road-Arcot Salai junction, would now cost Rs. 52 crore... Work (is) expected to be completed with the stipulated time as land acquisition had been completed", say official sources.
