Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Dubai-based airline Emirates recently commenced its first e-freight consignment from Chennai to Dusseldorf via Dubai successfully carrying 65 kgs of cargo said to contain auto parts. This shipment completely eliminated the aspects of printing the air waybills, handling and processing costs.

E-freight is a renowned tool that allows for most cargo processes to be done electronically, thereby simplifying the business and eliminating costs of paper printing, handling and processing. E-freight also reduces time by decreasing the waiting time to process freight and increases productivity. It aims to reduce the carbon footprint and contribute to a greener world and that is what Emirates SkyCargo

Emirates SkyCargo is confident that working in an e-environment will bring enhanced operational efficiency and improvement to the supply chain. E-freight is an air cargo industry-led project involving carriers, freight forwarders, ground handlers, shippers and customs authorities. It aims to take the paper out of the air cargo supply chain, streamline processes, improve speed and reduce costs. A number of factors contribute to these positive results: reduced cycle times of 24 hours on average, greater reliability and accuracy due to one-time data entry at the point of origin, and much better visibility in the online track on account of electronic documentation.

Emirates SkyCargo provides over 300 tonnes of cargo capacity on a weekly basis with 21 flights from Chennai to Dubai and a total of 3,191 tonnes of cargo capacity in India with 184 weekly flights including Chennai. Emirates carries leather goods, pharmaceuticals, readymade garments, textiles, electronics, engineering goods and spares, valuables, perishables, live animals (Pets) etc. from Chennai.

In addition to its routine cargo operations, Emirates SkyCargo operates one scheduled freighter aircraft to Chennai (Boeing 747-400F) in a week with a capacity of 115 tonnes payload on the routing Dubai-Chennai-Dubai.
