The 1st suburban A/C coach reaches Mumbai

The first suburban air-conditioned coach, manufactured in Chennai, has reached Mumbai. This will be operated between Thane & Panvale from 16th April.

The long-awaited 1st air-conditioned coach finally reached Mumbai yesterday (Tuesday, 5th April). The coach has 12 compartments. It is fully air-conditioned. It was manufactured in Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. 

It departed from Chennai to Mumbai on 1st April. It reached Mumbai yesterday morning. 50 percent Indian Technology has been used in the manufacture.

5964 passengers can travel in this train. Seating capacity is for 1028 passengers and standing capacity is 4936.

The train has doors which will get closed once the passengers have entered. The doors will open when the train stops at stations for the passengers to get out. However, these are not automatic doors. There is a lever in the engine drivers compartment.The doors will get opened or closed when the engine driver operates this lever.

The train will run at a maximum speed of 110 km per hour. The train has been stationed at Kurla Railway Station.

India`s first train started operating between Poribandar & Thane on 16th April, 1853.  In order to commemorate this important occasion, the new air-conditioned train will start operating on 16th April between Thane & Panvel on the trans-harbour track.

This is a test run. Only women will be allowed inside the train during this test run.

The fare for this will be decided as per the prevailing Delhi Metro Rail fare. The fare will be uniform.
