Price of private milk is increased by Rs 2 per litre. This has given rise to huge demand for Aavin milk.
Aavin has 23 lakh consumers across Tamil Nadu. Of these, 11.5 lakh litre of milk is sold in Chennai. About 7.5 lakh consumers get Aavin milk through monthly milk cards.
As compared to Aavin, private milk price is higher by Rs 6 to 8. This naturally increases demand for Aavin milk. Those who have been using private milk have quit buying them and started switching to Aavin. Officials however believe that the demand for Aavin milk is manageable. As of now, 11.5 lakh litre of Aavin milk is sold in Chennai. Aavin currently has a capacity of meeting 13.5 lakh litres demand.
Across Tamil Nadu, 30 lakh litres of milk is procured. Due to hike in price of private milk, there is increased need for Aavin milk by 23,000 litres.
