Beautiful Ganesha idols marched in to Kamarajar Salai, leaving the area fully dense and crowded on Sunday. These were taken to immerse the idol as a part of auspicious practice. In spite of lining up the devotees along the footpath, it was a really challenging job for the police personnel to streamline the traffic in the stretch.
According to reports by a senior police official, 2,145 idols were immersed out of the total number of 2,696 idols placed in different parts of the city including KK Nagar, Chintradripet, Manali, Villivakkam, etc.
While trying to control the crowd, a group of men who had come for immersing Vinayagar idol assaulted a policeman. It was Mr Muthukrishnan, the head constable at Pattinapakkam Police Station who got assaulted. Ten individuals were involved in the assault all of who were fully drunk.
While seven of them had run away, Varadarajan aging 27, Rajesh aging 25 and Prabhu aging 25 got caught.
