As it is facing worst financial crises in its history so far, Syndicate of University of Madras will be increasing its tuition and examination fee by up to 30 percent for distance and regular courses.

During the marathon meeting that took place for 6 long hours on Monday, major resolutions were taken including structuring ethical guidelines for research thesis to prevent plagiarism. These are going to be in lines with the western universities. For almost more than 17 years, no revision in fees has so far been done. Running the courses each with the present day fee structure is practically impossible, said a syndicate member.

Before taking the final call, we had set it against the other universities. He further added that all the depleted financial resources in the university shall get strengthened by this move. We shall forward the decision to the academic council and further sent to the Governor Chancellor’s approval. After these, it shall come into effect.

After assuming office, this is the first syndicate meeting to chair for P. Duraisamy, the new Vice Chancellor of the Madras University. He has clearly directed the institution to proceed further.

The VC intended making the university completely paperless, as per his statement in the 10-point vision plan drafted 3 years ago. Accordingly, all the administrative activities, payroll, human resource management, exam related activities, and others are to be digitalized and brought under e-governance.
