Since last one month, interior districts of Tamil Nadu have been receiving on and off good rains. However, coastal areas including Chennai remained almost dry. A few occasional traces of light rain and thunderstorm were recorded but they failed to cheer up the residents of the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

Now, Southwest Monsoon has finally made onset over Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu. However, people of Chennai still have to wait for rains for around three to five days.

Rains will begin over Chennai around June 5 and 6. Before that, warm and humid weather will continue. However, isolated weather activity in terms of the thunderstorm and light rain cannot be ruled out. These activities will be responsible because of local cloud development.

Rainfall in true sense will commence in the first week. Around June 5 and 6, a cyclonic circulation is likely to develop along the Andhra Pradesh coast. Due to this weather system, rainfall is expected to pick up pace over Chennai and other parts of East Coast including Coastal Tamil Nadu and Andhra Coast, Thus, the ongoing dry spell will finally end.

Chennaites will finally be able to heave a sigh of relief and the prevailing heatwave conditions will also take a backseat resulting in some relief from the ongoing weather conditions.
