The Chennai police have introduced a new scheme to reduce the acute traffic congestions encountered in Perungalathur.
After the new Police Commissioner A. K. Viswanathan assumed office, several measures have been undertaken to ease the acute traffic congestions in many routes and also to reduce the road accidents.
In order to facilitate vehicles running through Gandhi Road proceeding to Vandalur, the left section of the road has been widened and the encroaches in that side have been removed.
Space requirements have been addressed to facilitate the vehicles departing from the Perungalathur Bus Terminus to proceed to GST Road.
Only the 2-wheelers coming from Perungalathur Gandhi Road will be allowed to cross via GST Road till 6.00 PM.
Autos will be permitted to cross via GST Road from 7.30AM to 9.00 AM and from 3.30 PM to 5.00 PM. Ambulances will be allowed to cross all the time.
However, vehicles such as cars, buses, and lorries will not be allowed to cross via GST Road.
The road in the Erikarai Junction has been leveled and new Tar Road laid for the vehicles to pass easily and turn.
With the completion of the above initiatives, it is expected that the acute traffic congestion prevailing in Perunglathur will start reducing to a great extent.
