Cauvery river Maha Pushkar festival

The Cauvery river Maha Pushkar festival commenced after a gap of 144 years. Thousands of devotees took holy baths.
As per the Hindu Zodiac system, Lord Guru (Planet Jupiter) has shifted from Kanni Rasi (Virgo) to Thulam Rasi (Libra) after a gap of 12 years. Lord Guru will be at Libra for 1 year period. The river Cauvery is the sacred river assigned to Lord Guru. According to the tradition based on mythology, the Pushkaka theertam (holy water) from Lord Brahma`s kamandala (a hand pot) flows out to the holy Cauvery, considered as a sacred river. This holy water will clear all the bad deeds and their effects on the people who take the holy dip in the river Cauvery on this day.
This event occurs after every 144 years. Kanchi Jayendra Swami poured the sacred water from doing the holy Pooja in the Cauvery river and sanctified it. Subsequently, Jayendrar, Vijayendrar, Dharmapuri Aadheenm Srilasri Shanmuga Desik Gnanasambandha Swamigal, and Dharmapuri Ilaiya Aadheenam took the holy bath in the river Cauvery.
The deities of the Lord Siva and His consort Goddess Ambal were taken to the banks of Cauvery on this special and auspicious occasion for the devotees to have Darshan.
Following the respected members of the religious establishments, 5000 devotees including the Princess of Greece, Irene, took the Holy Dip. Pushkara Festival is scheduled to be celebrated till 24th September.
