The Department of Railways has ordered that books depicting the culture of the country must be kept for sales in all the shops in the railway station platforms.

The Department of Railways has sent a commercial circular to all the General Managers. It states that a new policy is planned for the shops in the railway station platforms. As per the new policy, all shops in the railway station platforms selling books, medicines, and arts and handicraft items must also keep books regarding the Indian culture and tradition, morality and discipline for sales.

Similarly, books carrying the railway timetables and trains must also be kept for sales. As per the new policy, the stalls will be of multi-purpose in nature.

In these multi-purpose stalls, books, the art and handicraft gift items manufactured in the locality, drinking water, medicines which do not warrant doctor’s prescription, milk powder, etc., will be sold. In these stalls, cash up to Rs. 100 for the purchase will be accepted in cash. For amounts over Rs. 100, only E-wallet will be entertained.

The individuals and the self-help groups which are interested in setting up the above multi-purpose stalls can apply.
