Officials of the Housing and urban development department have been exploring the possibility to extend the deadline for applications for regularizing the unapproved plots/lands by another 6 months.

The scheme for the regularization and proper registration of unauthorized ownership of plot/land was announced in May 2017. In the initial stages, there was a very poor response and no interest was shown by the owners.

So, the state government of Tamil Nadu announced an extension of the deadline from the original 6 months to 1 year on 13th October 2017.

Under this regularization scheme of unauthorized/unapproved land/plot purchase, many restrictions on the existing rules and regulations have been removed and simplified.

There are 12 lakhs unapproved plots/lands throughout Tamil Nadu. So far, only 1.5 Lakhs plots only have been regularized under this scheme.

However, presently, the public has started showing interest in this regularization scheme.

The local administrations have also commenced organizing and conducting special camps for this. In this situation, the deadline as per the previous last announcement closes tomorrow (Thursday, 3rd May).

The public has demanded an extension of 6 more months for this scheme. The higher officials of the housing and urban development department have been reviewing this possibility by analyzing the legal avenues regarding the extension.

It is gathered that the results of this will be announced only after getting the approval of the state Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister.
