This says it all. In Rotary whatever we do is for a cause. The countdown for the prestigious Rotary Club of Madras Golf Tournament has begun for this year.

Rotary Club of Madras has been successfully organizing the Corporate Golf Tournament annually with the objective of providing a competitive platform for all commercial, government and services organizations in the city.

Rotary Club of Madras which is the Premium Club in South India and the third oldest Club in India carries out various community service projects every year to benefit the less fortunate people of this country.  The projects range from Vocational Service Training, Health Clinics, Educational Scholarships, Providing better facilities for municipal school children, Senior Citizen’s home etc.

Substantial funds are required each year for this and our club organizes many fund raising events to support the projects.
One such event is the Annual Corporate Golf Tournament which will be held for the 5th year in succession on February 2nd & 3rd, 2013 at the TNGF-Cosmo Golf Club, Chennai.  In this tournament we not only raise funds for our own projects but also designate a third party charitable organization as recipient of a portion of the proceeds.  In this manner the Corporates and participants know that they too have made a CSR contribution and not just played golf.  Hence our tag line “SWING FOR A CAUSE”.

Every year we try to take the Golf Tournament to a higher level to make this more and more popular for the Corporates and the Participants.  For us the objective is that all players must remember the hospitality and friendship experienced by them in addition to gifts, great golf and the competitive spirit.

With this in mind, we had modeled this event on the longstanding and highly successful Merchants Cup Golf held annually in Calcutta.  There used to be the Merchants and Bankers Golf Tournament in Chennai, Which had been discontinued for many years now.  With the idea of reviving it in Chennai, Rotary Club of Madras wanted to brand this Tournament as Rotary Club of Madras Merchants and Bankers Golf Tournament and last year we got the consent from the erstwhile board and organizers of Merchants and Bankers Tournament to revive this ever so popular Golf event in this City and use the name. We are continuing this branding this year also

This year the focus is going to be to attract even more of the leading Corporates in Chennai and also in Coimbatore, Ooty and Kodaikanal to participate in this event.  The Calcutta event attracts as many as 600 players and we wish to achieve a target of at least 250-300 golfers this year.  In addition we are expecting a large participation from the Korean and Japanese Communities, as well as the armed forces.
