Coronavirus has been making the headlines in recent times.
Steps are being taken by the Chennai airport to screen passengers for the symptoms of coronavirus like running nose, coughing, sore throat etc. This airport does not have a well equipped and isolated quarantine centre to handle those with infection.
It was in the year 2014 ebola virus caused many issues and there was a plan at that time to set up quarantine and isolated centre outside the Chennai airport terminal but things have not materialised. Near the airport terminals, the land has been identified by AAI and APHO under the ministry of health and family welfare is known. The construction hasn’t started still.
At the international arrival terminal, the airport has set up a quarantine room to handle those who have influenza-like symptoms as coronavirus is spreading in China.
Near the terminal, a new building has come up and it was supposed to accommodate Airport Health organisation officials, an isolated ward for infected passengers plus a quarantine area to observe healthy passengers who require monitoring to know if they could develop symptoms of infectious diseases. Information is the building must be away from the main building and should not have common a/c or sewage link.
