Many bus accidents take place on the Chennai roads and on TN roads and the real cause for the accidents remains a puzzle in many cases. Safety of bus passengers has been an issue for many years.  These issues won’t be there in the future.

In the assembly on Friday, deputy chief minister of TN, Mr O. Paneerselvam, spoke about the installation of 2 sets of CCTV cameras in all the government buses in TN including MTC buses in Chennai. The purpose of installation of these CCTV cameras was to ascertain the cause for the road accidents plus also to ensure the safety of the passengers.

An amount of Rs 75 crores would be spent on this. It is now said that Nirbhaya funds would be used for this purpose.

Investigating agencies would be benefited by the CCTV cameras that would be fitted outside rearview mirrors on all the buses. The point is the investigating agency would be able to identify the real cause for the accident easily.

In the past, on many occasions, whenever there was an accident between an MTC bus and two-wheeler case was registered only against the bus driver. The driver of the two-wheeler mostly escaped from punishment in spite of driving his vehicle in a rash manner. The deputy chief minister of TN also made another important announcement about electronic ticketing system in all the buses for the sake of cashless transactions. Information collected is every conductor would be given a swipe machine in which the passengers could swipe their mobility cards.
