The month of April has started and the peak summer is nearing!!

The sources have now revealed that the metro water department or MWD would be increasing their water supply to the usual 830 MLD within a month of time.

It is important to note that proper hygiene maintenance is vital to eliminate Corona virus and water is indispensable in the battle against Corona virus. Therefore, the government is thinking of increasing the water supply from 650 MLD. This increase in the water supply would be done once Nemelli desalination plant begins its operations after maintenance.

There is enough storage to maintain increased water supply and this has been assured by the officials. It is revealed that as of last weekend, the 4 reservoirs together hold 6.36 tmcft apart from 74 cusecs got from Veeranam Lake.

The water supply would last till the month of June as all the water based enterprises like malls, hotels, cinema theatres, swimming pools, offices and industries etc were closed due to Corona virus. Another reason why the government would increase the water supply was due to new connections under board’s purview in areas like Ulagaram, Avadi and Sholinganallur etc.

The water would be supplied in these places once the pre-commissioning tests get completed. Water would be sourced from Pammal, Pallavaram and Anakaputhur municipalities and from these places water would be distributed to the households.

Since the month of September, the supply of Krishna water has been steady. Point is for the second time Chennai got more than 7 mcft.
