The announcement made by the Chennai police personnel, through Public Addressing System regarding not to crowd once the lock down gets lifted, did not have any effect.

Chennai was under total lock down for 4 days from 26th to 29th April 2020 to prevent Corona virus spreading is known. It is worthy to mention that after the lock down was lifted there were huge crowds in many parts of Chennai on Thursday.

In places like Peter’s Road in Royapettah, Zam Bazar, Ayanavaram and Otteri, the crowd management plan of the Chennai police went totally out of control.

The people were on buying spree and after the lock down was lifted the people did not obey the rules of social distancing at the shops. It must be taken into account that the shopkeepers erected posts to regulate the crowd and made marks for social distancing. The market area belonging to Zam Bazaar was badly affected yesterday as many shops lined up on the roads and did not leave any space for the motorists.

The people thought the stocks might run out soon and this made many people to throng the shops. It is known that the shops would remain open till 5 pm in the evening and this was as per the order. This was brought out by Mr. Arivazhagan, a resident belonging to Royapettah.

In another important place in Chennai, Ayanavaram, few Corona virus positive cases made the temporary market to be shut down. On Thursday, the entire stretch from Ayanavaram signal to Otteri Bridge was made into market. Around 11 am in the morning, the crowd went unmanageable and after the arrival of additional police personnel the crowd was brought under control.

For the sake of diverting the crowd, the market was set up in 3 different places in Adyar. The crowd was properly streamlined in Adyar and in Tambaram etc.
