Here comes a superb piece of news for those who travel by flights!!
The domestic flights have been operating for nearly 2 months in Chennai. Soon, this airport might see an increase in the number of flights. To increase the number of flights in Chennai airport, AAI or Airport Authority of India has written a letter to the state government.
The sources have highlighted that if the proposal gets approved then there might be nearly 85 flights arriving and 85 flight departures from the month of August. Information gathered is at present Chennai airport has got just 60 flights per day with 30 arrivals and 30 departures.
It must not be forgotten that the TN government placed a limit of 25 arrival flights just before the nod to start domestic flight operations was given. The passenger traffic was poor. It was clear from the sources that a request was made for the sake of increasing the number of flights in Chennai. He concluded that there are plans to operate nearly 45% of the total capacity of the airport.
Every day, Chennai airport witnessed 450 to 500 aircraft movements and this was before Covid-19 pandemic began. For allowing more flights, many requests have been made by AAI to the TN government. It has been brought out that in the past there were many tourists, business travellers, students, people visiting places of worship etc using flights.
Now, the situation has changed completely due to Coronavirus pandemic and now people use fights just for emergency or medical reasons. The number of people travelling has become static in the last 2 months. On average, just 3500 to 4000 people used the Chennai airport. It must be taken into account that there were no direct flights from and to Kolkata in the past few weeks. As a result, the passenger traffic has not increased.
