Online food aggregators like Swiggy, Zomato etc have been collecting an amount for bad weather apart from the regular delivery and distance amount charges from the customers in Chennai.
An extra amount of Rs 50 is being collected by the online food aggregators as bad weather fees/ distance fees if a customer orders food for Rs 400 from a restaurant that is 5km away from his or her residence. It was pointed out by a resident belonging to Madipakkam that she paid extra Rs 20 when she ordered food through Swiggy, a famous online food aggregator.
Bad weather fee amount has been collected from the customers across India and increase in the prices could be avoided after attaining super customer status that customer buys for a minimum of Rs 149 for a month. This was according to some sources belonging to Swiggy. This scheme was withdrawn due to the lockdown in Chennai and has been revived once again.
The additional fee amount that has been collected gets transferred to the delivery executives account to compensate for travelling in the tough conditions. This was as per the food aggregators. Truth is the delivery executives agree to getting the amount with some delay.
A delivery executive from Velachery spoke his heart out. He said many customers give more money as tips as they understand the issues associated with the work. He added that this extra amount has been helping him to refill fuel tanks as petrol rates have become more in the last 2 months.
