To cater to Chennai city’s increasing water requirement, the popular Madurantakam Lake near Chennai would be rejuvenated with additional storage capacity by the WRD or water resources department. It is brought out that the water body would be improved as the drinking water source.

One of the largest irrigation water bodies belonging to Chengaplet is Madurantakam Lake is a well known fact. It is now said that WRD would take a different approach in its restoration efforts.

The WRD officials mentioned that the height of 6 weirs would be raised as de-silting alone would not help in increasing the storage capacity.
