There have been just 10 responses from the residents of Chennai in response to the CMDA’s (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority) draft list of 66 heritage structures in the city. The CMDA had published a list of buildings and invited the public to come up with objections and suggestions in getting the buildings ‘heritage’ status.
‘(We) received only a few letters from the public during the initial phase. We are not concerned about this response to this exercise. We will soon place the list before the heritage conservation committee for approval before giving the structures the heritage tag… CMDA has documented a list of another 44 structures for which public opinions will be sought soon. The buildings should have criterion including architectural and cultural values. We have finalized the structures after scientifically documenting them. It took several years and lots of efforts have gone into this’, said an official.
