Residents of Tamil Nadu, and workers at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) and TANGEDCO are all happy with the improvement of the power situation in the State. Many give the credit to Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s brave stand against environmentalists that enabled the functioning of the Kudankalam Nuclear Power Plant.

“For the first time in the country, a state government has come forward to buy shares of a Central PSU. The workers are happy. Usually, the divested stake goes into private hands’, said M. Sekar who is the Diretict Secretary of the Cuddalore chapter of AITUC.

The timely intervention by CM saved Tamil Nadu from power cuts. We did not resort to load-shedding during the 13-day strike by the NLC employees. But we would have been forced to do that if the agitation had continued and power generation got hit, as TN receives nearly 1000 MW from NLC’, said an official from TANGEDCO.
