The Coronavirus pandemic has been very harsh in Chennai and it has turned things upside down for the Chennai Corporation is a well known fact. It is now brought out that the Chennai Corporation has not only found a way to get back revenue but it has managed to carry out various  infrastructure projects effectively also. This year, from the property taxes alone, the Chennai Corporation has collected more than Rs 300 crores and that was a sensational effort.

As per Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Chennai Corporation commissioner this amount has helped the civic body to continue their work well. He then spoke about how streamlining the solid waste was a challenge for the corporation and how every day 5000 MT of waste was generated in Chennai.

In the last one year, the Chennai Corporation has carried out many conservancy works during the night tie only to avoid issues. The works were effectively carried out in the night time but the issue was regarding the safety of sanitary workers. Getting hit due to reckless driving was a major problem for many conservancy workers.

It was mentioned by a conservancy worker that he would not be able to spend money for treatment if he was hit by reckless driving in the night time. The streets in Chennai city were kept clean by the joint association between Urbaser Sumeet and Ramkay Enviro. It must be noted that streamlining private conservancy operations have been highly successful in Chennai.

For giving Chennai a makeover, Rs 186 crores has been allotted by the Tamil Nadu government under Singara Chennai 2.0 initiative. Storm water drain or SWD network would be strengthened plus for other works the money allotted by the government would be utilized. It is now said that the Chennai Corporation is ready to issue work orders for Rs 70 crores.

Mr Gagendeep Singh then explained how beautification of Chennai was also on their agenda. He hinted that the corporation would be improving SWD plus various parks, schools, lighting, beautification of Chennai and stabilising of finances etc. He concluded that the Chennai residents must feel a sense of pride towards their city.
