This is the time when waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery etc would increase to a huge extent. The CMWSSB or Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has intensified the drinking water samples testing in the 15 GCC zones.

Every day, under the city distribution system, 300 water samples are being collected for physical, chemical and bacteriological analysis. Point to be noted is that out of this 60 samples have been taken up for bacteriological analysis and 15 for physicochemical analysis. To check TDS or total dissolved solids , 2000 water samples were taken initially but now it has been increased to 3000 samples.

For checking the water quality, the quality assurance dept of Chennai Metro Water and Chennai Corporation collect 200 samples each month. To add chlorine to the distribution tanks, arrangements have been made already by the corporation. As no water pipeline was damaged, no major complaints about contamination have been received. It is true that there were few issues in tondiarpet and in its neighbouring localities before the NE monsoon but they were rectified.

Residents belonging to Taramani and nearby places have complained about sewage mixed with drinking water. This was as per Mr. S. Veeraraghavan, founder of Green Voice  Global.
