Thiyagaraya Nagar, located in Chennai`s metro city, is the busiest trading location with many commercial complexes. Chennai citizens from other suburban areas also visit T Nagar to purchase textile and jewelry items. Additionally, residents of suburban areas come to T Nagar for work, and students go to schools and colleges. Therefore, T Nagar remains one of the busiest areas in Chennai`s metro city.

As the most important and largest commercial complex in Chennai`s metro city, citizens who visit T Nagar through the T Nagar Railway Station have to walk across heavy crowds to reach the T Nagar Bus Stop. To reduce this acute traffic congestion caused by human crowds, a skywalk has been constructed from the T Nagar Bus Terminus via Madley Road, Border Road up to T Nagar Railway Station, covering a distance of 1968` at a width of 13`. The project cost Rs. 30 Crores and was carried out under the `Smart City` Project.

The skywalk has facilities such as lifts, escalators, and more. It is set to be inaugurated today for public service by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Tuesday, 16th May. T Nagar Assembly Constituency MLA J. Karunanidhi, District Secretary Mayilai Velu, Party Secretary K. Elumalai, Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan, and Chennai Metro City Mayor Priya will participate in the inaugural function.
