Construction of a new modern fish market complex at Kolathur in Chennai!!
If you happen to visit the Kolathur ornamental fish market, then you might come across more than 1000 types of fishes like gourami, Oscars, sucker fish, guppy, carp, goldfish etc being sold here.
The ornamental fish market trade belonging to Kolathur is now making sensational news!
It is known that this Kolathur based ornamental fish market trade is second biggest across India. It is now said that a new modern fish market complex would be constructed soon here at Kolathur.
At an estimated amount of Rs 53 cr, CMDA would build the market in an area spread over 4.5 acre.
To regularise markets in his constituency, the TN chief minister conceived this idea. This was according to Mr. P.K. Sekar Babu, CMDA minister.
The CMDA minister later spoke about how several varieties of ornamental fishes are being sold at Kolathur based ornamental fish market as it is a hub. Whether legal or illegal, the fish stalls at the market makes a business worth Rs 300 cr per month.
Point is that the two storey market building would have space for 180 fish shops. For 8 stalls, a wall mounted glass fish tank would be created. About 300 fish vendors would be benefited by the upcoming fish trade centre.
On the ground floor, there would be 64 shops and on the first floor there would be 70 shops. The second floor would have 54 shops. The dimensions of each shop will be 4m by 5m and they would be 3.75m tall. On the northern façade, a large promenade would be coming up plus a large open air theatre.
There would also be a food court on the second floor. It is superb to mention that the newly constructed market would have parking space for 230 cars and 200 bikes. Though the construction would be by CMDA, maintenance would be done by the fisheries dept. It is learnt that the unlicensed shops would be regularised and brought into CMDA`s limits. It was mentioned by a fish stall owner that the market must be present in south Chennai also.
