The Agni Nakshatra, a period of intense heat, is expected to last for 25 days, from May 4th to May 28th, bringing sweltering temperatures across Tamil Nadu. The heatwave, which has been ongoing since March, has already resulted in maximum temperatures reaching 100°F in several districts, including Vellore, Erode, Karur Paramathi, Thanjavur, Salem, Madurai, Tiruttani, Coimbatore, and Tirupattur.
Despite the heat, good rains have been cooling down the earth in many areas, including the Delta districts, with showers continuing since yesterday. However, meteorologists predict that the scattered rainfall will end by April 30th, and temperatures will begin to rise gradually thereafter. From May 1st, the impact of the sun is expected to intensify, leading to higher-than-normal temperatures.
The Agni Nakshatra, also known as the Katthiri Veil, marks the peak of summer temperatures. With schools and colleges closed for holidays, many people are heading to the hilly regions to escape the heat.
Experts advise extra precautions during this period, as the heatwave is expected to be more severe than usual. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and take measures to protect themselves from the scorching temperatures.
