SAPLINGS PLANTED IN CHENNAI TO BE NAMED AFTER CHILDREN

Mayor M Subramanian has evolved a novel public
engagement scheme in which he proposes to plant one llakh trees in Chennai and
the saplings would be named after children. The mayor said that between
Septembers, 09 to date corporation had planted 41 147 saplings in Chennai and
named after the children of house in which tree was planted. Saplings of Vembu,
Pungai, Poovarasu, Naval etc are planted. The parents are responsible for
the tree as well and they would issue with a certificate. The officials have
been instructed to plant number of trees every month on the basis children born
in the corresponding period.
