Tamil Nadu can soon have uninterrupted power supply. With the unit-1 of Kudankulam nuclear power project getting cleared for having 100 per cent capacity by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), the state is expected to get relieved from frequent power cuts. This unit is currently producing over 700 MW out of which 350 MW is supplied to Tamil Nadu. Now, it is allowed to increase the generation to 1000 MW.

Almost after thirty years after the inception of the plant, the unit is now cleared to make a full swing power generation. Now, further to the increased power generation, Tamil Nadu will receive 562 MW upon getting into an agreement with NPCIL.

Speaking to the chief of AERB, S.S. Balaji, he said the reactor will be tested for generation of 1000 MW and it will be brought down to 900 MW for stabilization which again will be increased to 1000 MW.
