Chennaites may experience pleasant weather

Posted on: 05/May/2014 9:49:41 AM
Thanks to the low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka. Chennaites can experience dark clouds, light drizzle and cool breeze. The temperature was 34.5°C in Nungambakkam while it was below 38°C across the state.

Some parts of the city such as Alandur received light drizzle in the morning, but dry weather prevailed in the afternoon. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Nungambakkam recorded light rain. The maximum during the day was 1.5°C below normal. The pleasant weather was thanks to the low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka. While southern parts of the state are enjoying the benefits of the low pressure system, the city and its neighboring districts in the north could only be thankful for the cloudy day.

The temperature in districts all over Tamil Nadu was below 38°C and Valparai, Cuddalore and Kodaikanal received a rainfall of 2.6cm, 1.7cm and 1.5cm respectively. Even Vellore and Trichy, where the maximum temperature in April had crossed 40°Cl, recorded lower temperatures around 37°C.

The rainfall is due to low pressure over Sri Lanka. Northern parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, have chances of receiving isolated showers during the next two days. With the cloud formation and strong winds from the east, the temperature in the city may remain below 35°C in the next two days.. However, when the system passes, clear skies and high temperatures will be brought back across the state.
