India Meteorological centre: This years rainfall will be more than normal

Posted on: 13/Apr/2016 2:24:35 PM
The period between June - September is the South-West Monsoon Season for India.

As climatic changes are expected, the India Meteorological Centre has estimated that the rainfall in this year`s South-West monsoon will be 6 percent more than the average recorded rainfall in the past records.

The phenomenon of El Nino, which was responsible for the drought in South Asia, is fading away slowly. It gives way to the phenomenon known as La Nina which is responsible for heavy rains. So, it is expected that this year`s monsoon rainfall is expected to be more than the average recorded so far.

States in the Northeast and Southeast, especially Tamil Nadu, are expected to have less than average rainfall in the monsoon season.

However, the state of Maharashtra, which experienced sever drought conditions, is expected to have copious rainfall.

This forecast will be reviewed and released again during June.
