Dedicated to Lord Muruga, Tiruchendur based Lord Subramanya Swamy temple is very famous and is present in the district of Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu is well known.

Tiruchendur is situated about 630 kms from Chennai. It must be noted that Jayanthipuram is the puranic name of this popular temple.  This temple is famous for being the second of the Arupadai veedu and is visited by many devotees.

Presence of this temple along the coast of Bay of Bengal is a remarkable sight for the people and tourists. It is important to note that this temple is the fourth Hindu temple in the state of TN to have got ISO certification.

It is said that after winning the battle with demon Surapadma, Lord Muruga worshipped his father and Lord Shiva in this place. One interesting point is in this temple’s rajagopuram is situated on the western side. Normally eastern side would have raja gopurams in the temples located in Tamil Nadu and this would surprise many people who visit this amazing shrine for the first time.

It must be noted that the mela gopurams has got as many as 9 storeys and stands at a height of 137 metres above Yalimattam. It measures 90 feet in length from north to south and 65 ft width from east to west. Width of 20 feet and length of 49 feet is present at the top of the gopuram.

People coming to this temple would be amazed to see the nazhi kinaru and there is a 14sqft well outside with 1sqft well inside it. It is sad to mention that in the 17th century AD, Dutch occupied this temple and looted some idols.

Daily 9 poojas take place in this temple of Lord Muruga and in this temple three pragarams were built using black granite stone.

This temple is opened for the devotees daily from 5 am to 12 and then from 5 pm till 9 pm.
